A thematic exhibition, "Countering Corruption: National and International Experience", dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day is open from 7 December 2021 to 16 January 2022 in the Documents of International Organisations Reading Room (room 207g).
This Day was proclaimed at the 58th session of the UN General Assembly on October 31, 2003 (resolution A/RES/58/4) and is celebrated annually on December 9.
In 2021, International Anti-Corruption Day will take place under the theme: "Your right, your role: Say no to Corruption."
Corruption is a complex social, political and economic phenomenon that, to varying degrees, affects all countries and all sectors of society. It destroys democratic institutions, slows economic development and undermines the foundations of the state. Preventing corruption ensures progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, helps protect the planet, creates jobs, and provides better access to basic services such as health and education.
Governments, private sector organisations, non-governmental organisations, media and citizens around the world are joining forces to fight this crime. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) are at the forefront of the fight against corruption.
The main international regulatory instrument for preventing and combating corruption is the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which was opened for signature in October 2003 and entered into force in December 2005. The document obliges signatory states to criminalise bribery, embezzlement of public funds and laundering of the proceeds of corruption. It provides for measures to prevent and punish corruption, as well as mechanisms for international cooperation to combat this evil. The Convention obliges member states to implement anti-corruption policies, approve relevant laws and establish special bodies to combat the phenomenon.
In supporting and developing international anti-corruption initiatives, the Republic of Belarus was one of the first participating States to ratify the UN Convention against Corruption. In addition to this convention, key international instruments such as the Council of Europe Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Civil Law Convention on Corruption have been ratified by our state and are being rigorously implemented.
An uncompromising fight against corruption is at the heart of our state's domestic policy. The basic document on the ground of which anti-corruption activities are organised in our country is the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Combating Corruption", adopted on 15 July 2015. All these documents are presented at the exhibition.
The exhibition presents more than 70 documents in Russian and English. Among them are periodicals, mimeographed materials of UN, brochures. The main part of the exhibition is the documents of international organisations (UN, European Union, Council of Europe, etc.).

The exhibition will be of interest to government officials, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, as well as teachers, postgraduates and law students.
