From September 15, 2007 to October 05, 2007, in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is open a book exhibition "Choice and Way" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Alexei Kavka, the historian and literary critic.


Alexei Kavka lives and works in Moscow. He investigates the history of Poland, and develops the issues of national renaissance and self-consciousness. Many of his works are dedicated to the eminent Belarusian personalities: Frantsisk Skaryna, Yanka Kupala, Konstantin Ezovitov, Ivan Lutskevich, Vatslav Lastovsky, Nicolay Vlaschyk and others.

The exhibition totals about 30 materials: works by Alexei Kavka published in different years in Belarusian and Russian languages, articles, and materials on his life and creative way. Alexei Kavka is the compiler of a literature and scientific year-book "Skarynich", and one of authors of bibliographies dedicated to Nicolay Vlaschyk. These editions are presented at the exhibition.

At the exhibition there are also the works by Belarusian authors (Victor Kovolenko, Arcady Zhuravsky, Nicolay Tychyna Vladimir Orlov, and others) dedicated to Alexei Kavka’s life, creative work, scientific researches, and public work.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
