From August 17, 2007 to September 2, 2007, in the Music and Audio Materials Reading Room (room 305) is open an exhibition “The Poet of Sounds” dedicated to the 145th anniversary of Claude Debussy, the French composer, pianist, conductor, and founder of music impressionism. The works by the composer are full of poetry, elegant and exquisite melody, harmony, and wonderful musical images.
The main works by the composer are: the Prelude to the Afternoon of the Faune (1894), the triptych Nocturnes for symphonic orchestra (1899), the three symphonic studies, and the opera “Pelleas and Melisande”.
Claude Debussy founded a new pianist style (etudes, preludes). The composer virtuously represents images and scenes, as well as exact psychological portraits.
Also Claude Debussy created vocal music: romances and songs where the melody was natural and close to human speech inflexion.
Claude Debussy stinger quartet is the most popular chamber music piece by the composer.
The exhibition presents music books, audio records, and materials dedicated to the composer’s life and creative way.
At the exhibition are displayed over 80 materials.
