An exhibition “Beyond the Archival Threshold” is on show in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) from March 19 to April 28. The exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Gennady Kiselev (1931-2008), the Belarusian historian, writer, literary critic and archaeologist.
Gennady Kiselev was born on March 19, 1931, in Kolomna city, Moscow region. After graduating from the Moscow Historical and Archival Institute in 1953, he was sent to work in the archival institutions of Lithuania. He worked as a senior researcher at the Central State Historical Archive of the Lithuanian SSR From 1960 to 1971, and further as a senior researcher at the Institute of Literature named after Yanka Kupala Academy of Sciences of Belarus. He began to publish in 1958.
The editions presented in the sections "With eyes and hearts to the fact" and "I lived with them, I grew up among them" fully reveal the life and creative path of Gennady Kiselev. The main topics of the historian's scientific research are the uprising of 1863 under the leadership of K. Kalinovsky, the works of V. Dunin-Martsinkevich, J. Chechot, F. Bogushevich, A.I. Verigi-Darevsky and others. The exhibition presents books by G. Kiselev “Thinking about Belarus”, “Heroes and Muses”, “From Chachota to Bagushevich”, “Taste of Belarus” and many others. Visitors will also be interested in the first publications of the researcher in the collections "Slavic Archive".
The main direction of Gennady Vasilevich's activity was the search for the true author of the anonymous poems "Taras on Parnassus" and "Aeneid inside out", which resulted in the books "The Mystery of the Belarusian Aeneid", "Looking for a classic ...", "Search for a name", "Once upon a time there were classics: who wrote poems "Aeneid Inside Out" and "Taras on Parnassus". It is they who reveal the entire scientific and creative laboratory of the researcher with all the details of work on this topic. The world learned about Konstantin Veronitsyn, who is considered the author of the named works, thanks to Gennady Kiselev.
The Publishing house "Limarius" published a book of memoirs about the researcher named "... Hear how destiny walls are crumbling" in 2009 In memory of Gennady Kiselev.
The exposition includes about 100 documents.
