The Belarussian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is running a book exhibition “Belarus. 19421-1945: Feat. Tragedy. Memory” dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus from July 2nd to September 4th.

The subject of the Great Patriotic War responds with pain in soul of each citizen in Belarus. Our country was the first to attack by the enemy and became an arena for large combat activities. A victory over the enemy was achieved by the value of a large number of victims. Cruelty and mass scale of the occupants’ crimes had no example in the history of new Belarus. The invaders burnt, destroyed and plundered 209 out of 270 towns and district centers, 9,200 villages. Around 3 million people died.

The exposition is presented by publicist, document and archive materials, memories of veterans, memories of prisoners of concentration camps, art literature – works of Belarussian writers about wartime. Overwhelming majority of the exhibited documents are publications of the last years.

The books exhibited are available for order through an electronic catalogue of the National Library of Belarus.

The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
