From 13 March to 20 April, an exhibition "A tireless worker of science" dedicated to the 75th anniversary from the date of the birth of Emmanuel Ioffe runs in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205).
The name of the Belarusian scientist, historian, political scientist, sociologist, culture specialist and teacher is well known not only in Belarus, but also abroad. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor E. Joffe made a significant contribution to the development of the country’s social sciences and educational system. He is the author of 780 scientific works, including 46 books and brochures. Most of them were published in the Belarusian and Russian languages, some – in English, German, Polish, Ukrainian and other languages. The scientist’s long fruitful work was awarded state awards.
A range of his scientific interests is quite wide. E. Joffe researches the history of Belarus, the period of the Civil and Great Patriotic War, the history of the Belarusian science and culture, the Belarusian historiography and history of the Jews in Belarus.
A section of the exhibition "The variety of scientific activities" introduces visitors to the numerous books written by the scientist. A special place among them belongs to the works appeared in the last decade: Po dostovernym istochnikam: evrei v istorii gorodov Belarusi (According to reliable sources: the Jews in the history of cities in Belarus) (2001), Belorusskie evrei: tragediya i geroizm, 1941–1945 (The Belarusian Jews: tragedy and heroism, 1941–1945) ( 2003), Abver, politsiya bezopasnosti i SD, taynaya polevaya politsiya, otdel "Inostrannye armii – Vostok" v zapadnykh oblastyakh SSSR. Strategy and Tactics: 1939–1945) (2007, 2008), Nobelevskie laureaty s belorusskimi kornyami (Nobel laureates of the Belarusian origin) (co-authored with Zh. Mazets, 2008), Ot Myasnikova do Malofeeva. Kto rukovodil BSSR (From Myasnikov to Malofeev. Who led the BSSR) (2008), Belorussky shtab partizanskogo dvizheniya (The Belarusian Headquarters of Partisan Movement) (2009), Kogda i zachem Gitler i drugie vysshie chiny natsistskoy Germanii priezzhali v SSSR? (When and why did Hitler and other high offiers of Nazi Germany come to the USSR?) (2010), Politicheskie partii Belarusi: istoriya i sovremennost (Political parties in Belarus: History and the Present) (2011) as well as other scientific, educational and pedagogical issues.
A section "The outstanding researcher" demonstrates his numerous publications from magazines and collections.
Documents from a section "The talent of a reviewer, writer, editor" reveal other sides of E. Ioffe’s creative activity.
The last section of the exhibition is "The portrait of a scientist, educator, public figure" which is about E. Ioffe’s life, scientific and social activities. It exhibitsa monograph by M. Strelets and S. Ptichkina E.G. Ioffe: portret uchenogo i pedagoga (E.G. Joffe: the portrait of the scientist and educator) (2009), as well as a number of publications from encyclopedias, bibliographical editions and periodicals.
The exhibition contains a lot of pictures from E. Ioffe’s family archive.
