From November 2nd, 2009, to December 19th, 2009, in graphic and video materials reading room (room 307) is open an exhibition “Purple wind of October” which displays the collection of postcards and posters of the 1940th-1970th from the stocks of National Library of Belarus.

In the first revolutionary years in Russia, operative and politicized kinds of art – political posters, postcards and other graphic propaganda – played the leading role. Such mass forms of art revealed the characteristic signs of the epoch. Not designed for long existence, they arose together with quickly varying events and as soon died off, being replaced by other methods of artistic impact on the masses. And while contemporaries regard the events of history as rather burdensome and not interesting, in the long term they get the importance.

More than 120 documents are displayed at the exhibition. These are postcards and the posters, dedicated to the events which took place in October, 1917.

The exposition is designed for all categories of readers, who are interested in the history of the Soviet graphic and poster art.
