All Belarusian librarians celebrate their professional holiday, the Day of Libraries every year on September 15. The book exhibition "Temples of Time, Memory, Thought..." is timed to this day. It is located in the circular corridor on the 2nd floor of the National Library of Belarus.

Libraries appeared in ancient times and during their existence have evolved from a simple collection of documents to a social institution that became an obligatory feature of modern societies and states. The library is not only the keeper of manuscript and book monuments and the basis of the scientific activity of people. Today, the library is a public place that combines a treasury of knowledge, cultural centres and coworking spaces. This suggests that the content of the work and its scope are not static, but, on the contrary, are constantly changing and transforming.

The exhibition "Temples of Time, Memory, Thought..." shows the development of libraries as institutions and architectural monuments. More than 60 documents from the collections of the National Library of Belarus tell about the largest libraries in Great Britain, France, USA, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland and other countries, about the history of their appearance, development and current state. Many of the publications are highly artistic photo albums, which makes it possible to look at many libraries as architectural objects and World Heritage Sites.

Special attention is given to the Belarusian book heritage, in particular, the Radziwills' library in Nesvizh. The exhibition presents the fundamental publication of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus "The Library of the Radziwills of the Nesvizh Ordination", containing the first complete description of documents from the famous book collection stored in the fund of the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

You can visit the exhibition until October 10, 2020.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Entry is by a library card or by Social and Cultural Center ticket.
