Exhibition project dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre is on show in the Atrium Gallery (3rd floor) of the National Library of Belarus.

The Kupala Theatre was rightfully considered one of the leading stages in the country. This is not just a name; it is a brand, a symbol of the Belarusian culture and identity. The theatre played a significant role in the cultural life of Belarus. The cultural community perceived each new performance as a national phenomenon, and the famous play "Paulinka" has long been the hallmark of the Kupala Theatre.

This year the theatre celebrates its 100th anniversary. A significant event in the history of the Belarusian theatre took place on September 14, 1920. The oldest drama stage in Belarus was founded.

The exhibition project "The Symbol of the Belarusian National Culture" is timed to this memorable date. It shows the development of the theatre over the century based on materials from the collections of the National Library of Belarus and the archives of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre. There are more than 150 exhibit items. Among the unique ones are early editions of the dramatic works of the classics of Belarusian literature Ya. Kupala, E. Ozheshko, V. Dunin-Martsinkevich, K. Krapiva and others; rare photographs of the 1920s – 30s, as well as original sketches of costumes for the play based on Shakespeare's "Richard III" by one of the founders of the Belarusian school of scenography A. Mareks from the collection of artist I. Barkhatkov.

The central place in the exhibition is given to the play "Paulinka", which has become a real legend and has been running unchanged with authentic scenography. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see not only the dramatic piece of Ya. Kupala "Paulinka", published in 1927, photographs of the performance, but also the theatrical costumes of the main characters.
