The library hosted an educational seminar "New edition of the Law of the Republic of Belarus: On Copyright and Associated Rights" on April 20 on the eve of the World Book and Copyright Day and the World Intellectual Property Day.

The National Library of Belarus and the National Center for Intellectual Property are in charge of ozonizing the event.

The seminar was held in a mixed format: more than 40 people were present in the audience and more than 30 people joined online.

Viktar Pshybytka, deputy director general – director for information resources and user services of the National library of Belarus, and Uladzimir Rabavolaw, director general of the National intellectual property center, all greeted the attendees.


Andrej Luchanok, NCIS’ deputy head of the rights protection section of the copyright and associated rights department, has informed the attendees about changes in legislation related to collective leadership of property rights in the Republic of Belarus.

Alina Trukhanionak and Darja Kastsiuchenka, NCIS’ specialists of the large rights section of the copyright and associated rights department, spoke about large rights in collective leadership.

Viktoryja Shadryna, NCIS’ leading specialist of the copyright and associated rights legislation section of the legal and human resources department, spoke about the problems of copyright in the activities of libraries in Belarus.

The performance by Siargej Losev, head of the department of research in the field of civil, environmental, and social law at the National centre for legislation and legal research of the Republic of Belarus, piqued the audience's interest in particular. Current difficulties of classification and use of "orphan" works in libraries were touched upon in his report, "The Problem of ‘Orphan’ Works and Possible Ways to Solve It".

The presentations sparked a lively discussion on digitizing publications from library collections, providing remote access, and interacting with authors of works.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
