On May 5th the presentation of a cultural and educational project “We glorify the greatest feat” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory will be held at the National Library.
The project includes an exhibition military posters from the stocks of the National Library of Belarus, a presentation of internet-project “The memory of flaming years”, an exhibition “Partisan and underground press of Belarus”, a presentation of an edition “My War. The Great Patriotic War in Photos by V.I. Arkashev”, and also a photo exhibition “The Great Patriotic War in Photos by BelTA and TASS press photographer Vladimir Lupeyko”.
The military poster exhibition will run in the gallery “Atrium” (on the 3rd floor). It will present about 50 printed posters of different format on the subject of front, rear and partisan movement; posters of the series Okna TASS well-known in the years of the Great Patriotic War and other poster series covering the period from June 1941 till September 1945. Posters on display are created by known masters of Soviet poster graphics – М. Smirnov, М. Мalcev, М. Gordon, N. Sokolov, V. Ivanov, V. Deni, V. Korecky, L. Golovanov an dothers.
About 200 posters of 1941–1945 are kept in the stocks of the National Library of Belarus. This a historical documentary treasure enclosing the spirit of the epoch, that of the Great Victory.
The National Library’s internet-project ”The memory of flaming years” timed to 70th anniversary of the Great Victory includes electronic copies of newspapers, leaflets, pocket books and manuscripts, wall newspapers, photos of 1941–1945, posters, fiction by Belarusian authors dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, recorded wartime and postwar songs.
An exhibition ”Partisan and underground press of Belarus” will run in the Book Museum (on the 3rd floor). The collection of underground and partisan press of the Great Patriotic War is one of the most valuable parts of the stocks of the National Library of Belarus. The offered exhibition will present editions in Belarusian and Russian languages: original self-made hand-written and typewritten magazines created in partisan groups; leaflets with appeals to assist and support partisans, to struggle at the rear of the enemy, not to observe orders of occupational authorities; releases of rare newspapers.
An album ”My War. The Great Patriotic War in Photos by V.I. Arkashev” was published by the publishing house “Zvayzda”. The book includes 303 photos made by military press photographer. They represent unique and invaluable testimony of the Great Patriotic War displaying numerous fighting episodes, the army life, attacks, stream crossings, the activity of medical and sanitary battalions and interrogations of the captive.
The edition will be presented by Vladimir Adamushko, director of the Department of archives and record keeping of the Ministry of Justice of Belarus, and Tatiana Rahmanko, head of the Use department of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents.
A photo exhibition ”The Great Patriotic War in Photos by BelTA and TASS press photographer Vladimir Lupeyko” will present the history of the wartime and the post-war period through the eyes of a person who had survived the war and had seen different sides of life during this heavy period. The thematic exposition includes some cycles: the victorious photos, the wartime photos, the revival of Minsk during the post-war period. The exhibition will run till June 5th, 2015.
45 years long Vladimir Lupeyko had worked at the Belarusian news agency BelTA. His keenness, mobility, patience, taste for the new, love of people, skill to see the unusual in usual things allowed him to make so many remarkable, vivid photos which will be to many generations of descendants a memory and an edification. He left to us a huge photoarchive which represents the greatest creative, cultural and historical value.
The opening of the cultural and educational project “We glorify the greatest feat” will be held at 4 p.m. in the gallery “Labyrinth” (on the 3rd floor).
