On 29 September, the National Library hosted the solemn event “Mikhail Grushevsky, the prominent historian and builder of the nation” timed to the 150th anniversary of this remarkable person.


Mikhail Grushevsky is an Ukrainian statesman and politician, historian and founder of Ukrainian national science.

During the event, organized by the National Library in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian scientists and representatives of the Ukrainian community told the guests about the life of this well-known figure, his scientific, political, and historical and cultural heritage.

In turn, the National Library of Belarus presented a book exhibition, which let all the interested to learn more about Mikhail Grushevsky. The book exhibition presented his papers on the history of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people (both published in the beginning of the century and modern reissues). The paintings with Ukrainian landscapes and the portraits of Grushevsky and his associates were on display as well.

During the event the Ukrainian band Krinitsa performed musical compositions.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
