A grand opening of the international exhibition “Francysk Skaryna and his epoch” was held in the National Library, on 14 September.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus.

The opening of the international exhibition started with a flower placing ceremony at the monument to Francysk Skaryna, which was attended by the Chair of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Boris Svetlov and director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky.

Meanwhile, the festive venue in front of the main entrance of the National Library was visited by Francysk Skaryna in person! He was portrayed by the actor of the National Theater of Belarusian Drama, winner of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Denis Parshin."The fact that today the National Library has gathered my books under one roof is the best proof that you care about my era and my work! Each country, where I once lived and worked, has contributed to this exhibition. You grateful descendants were able to save this treasure, to study and to enable all people to know it, and this is a link between our times!” the pioneer printer recited.

Welcoming speeches were made by the guests of honor: the Minister of Culture of Belarus Boris Svetlov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Belarus Peter Dettmar, the director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, the acting director general of the Russian State Library Vladimir Gnezdilov.

Then Mikhail Myasnikovich, Boris Svetlov and Roman Motulsky cut the symbolic red ribbon before the entrance to the exhibition "Francysk Skaryna and his epoch".

Performances of the violin ensemble of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, the Chapel of Belarusian Wind Instruments "Gudy” and the dancing collective of Dmitri Zalessky created an atmosphere of festivity.

The “time portal” to Skaryna’s epoch will open on September 15, 2017, at 10 a.m. and will run up to January 10, 2018. We’re sincerely waiting for your coming! The “teleportation point” is at the Exhibition Center (room 104).
