The first republican competition “The Best Public Legal Information Center” is planned to be held in 2018.

The purpose of the competition is strengthening the role of public libraries in the formation of citizens’ legal culture, spreading the ideas of citizenship and patriotism, and also promoting creative initiative among employees of public legal information centers (PLIC), within the framework of their professional activity.

The competition organizers are: the National Center of Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus, Национальная библиотека Беларусиthe Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers and the Belarusian Library Association.

The open competition will be held in one stage, from 1 February to 12 October, 2018, in the following nominations:

  • The Best PLIC at the Regional Library;
  • The Best PLIC at the Central Regional (City) Library;
  • The Best PLIC at the City (Urban Village) Library;
  • The Best PLIC at the Children’s Library;
  • The Best PLIC at the Rural Library.

The details of the organization and order of the competition, the requirements for the submission and processing of contest materials and the criteria for their evaluation are in the Regulations on the Competition (an Application Form).

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
