Grodno Provincial Gazette is a government newspaper published in the provincial printing house during 1838-1915. In the 1840s it was printed on hand–made paper without a watermark. It is worth noting that the size of the newspaper was small compared to modern periodicals. The emblem of the province was placed on the first sheet of all the numbers.
The official government newspaper published state documents, as well as materials of local authorities. Of particular interest is the unofficial part, which includes a variety of materials on the history of the region, its ethnography, archeology, local history, medicine, education, trade, agriculture, industry, etc. The publication also published works of fiction and oral folk art. As today, advice, private ads and advertisements were posted.
The issues of the newspaper contain the names and surnames of the inhabitants of the province, which can become popular information for genealogy researchers.
The Grodno Provincial News is a valuable national document that can become an object of research for philologists, historians, religious scholars, cultural scientists and anyone interested in the history of their native land.
