In the near future, an unknown and not previously shown in Belarus copy of the GDL Statute of 1588 from Latvia will be available to the public at the international exhibition "Francysk Skaryna and his epoch" in the National Library of Belarus.
The publication is unique and very interesting. Several sheets at the beginning of the book were lost because of active use, but masterfully recreated by the scribe in hand-written form. In fact, each page of the Statute features handwritten notes, additions, underscores, which indicate its very active use.
The publication also comprises the famous edition of the GSL Tribunal of 1586, a very rare and valuable publication, and, by the way, the first Belarusian printed book of a legal nature.
We are grateful to the administration of the National Library of Latvia and the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Republic of Belarus for making possible the presentation of this unique monument in Belarus.
The international exhibition project "Francysk Skaryna and his epoch" will open in the National Library of Belarus on September 14th, during the International Congress "500 Years of the Belarusian Book-Printing", and from September 15th will be available to all comers.
