The presentation of the publication “The Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk” took place in the library on June 25.

The Belarusian Nongovernmental Organization of Ukrainians “Vatra”, translated into Belarusian the historical document “Contracts and Decisions of the Rights and Liberties of the Army” (1710), it is known as the “The Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk”. This monument of political and legal thought is considered the first Ukrainian constitution. The publication of the document in the Belarusian language will symbolically return the name of its author to the homeland: Pylyp Orlyk was the Ukrainian state and political figure, a native of the village of Kosuta (Minsk region).

The presentation was attended by Mr Igor Buzovsky, Deputy Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Igor Kizim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus, Ms Cristina Johannesson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus, Mr Victor Sorochan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Belarus, Mr Roman Motulsky, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Mr Alexander Susha, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Ms Galina Kalyuzhnaya, Chairman of the Minsk City Public Association of Ukrainians of Belarus “Zapovіt”, Mr Vyacheslav Danilovich, Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The publication of the “The Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk” joined the collections of the National Library of Belarus. 

Thanks to Ms Cristina Johannesson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus, the collections of the NLB now also contains a copy of the Latin-language version of the document “Contracts and Decisions of the Rights and Liberties of the Army,” the original document is stored in the ambassador’s homeland. The return gift was the photo album “Rarities of the National Library of Belarus”, which reflects the main treasures of the “diamond of knowledge”.

At the end of the event, guests were given a tour of the exhibition "Tribute to the Great Victory!", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
