The exhibition "The Flame of War Days" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and timed to the Independence Day was opened in the Rakurs Gallery (2nd floor) on June 23.

Ms Elena Dolgopolova, First Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Ms Natalia Sharangovich, First Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Mr Igor Kashkurevich, art historian and a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.

The exhibition features graphic works from the collections of the Belarusian Union of Artists. The authors are Belarusian artists who took part in the Great Patriotic War. Many were at the front or joined the guerrilla movement; some were evacuated or remained in the occupied territory.

The exhibition gives account to the pages of war life, filled with horror and tragedy of humanity. Graphic works by Arlen Kashkurevich, Belarusian people's artist, open it.

The exhibition is complemented with the sketches by other Belarusian graphics, who were eyewitnesses of the war: Evgeny Zaitsev, Ivan Tikhonov, Sergey Katkov, Victor Sakhnenko, Victor Zhdan, Nikolai Obrynba, Rosa Dubar, Sergey Romanov and Mikhail Sevruk. Front line photographs give the possibility to learn the personal history of artists, who survived the Great Patriotic War.

The theme and colours stir up many feelings. The colouring of etchings, lithographs and figures resemble the glowing flame.

The pain for the fate of people, killed in the flame of war, burns eternally in our memory. The war, which affected each Belarusian family. And without this fire in our hearts, there can be neither the present nor the future.
