On 9 February, the round table "The book and reading in the formation of electronic environment" was held at the National Library of Belarus within the framework of the 9th Minsk International Book Fair.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus.
Among participants there were First Deputy of Information Minister of the Republic of Belarus Liliya Ananich, head of cultural and art institutions of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Vadim Shcherbich, director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, deputy head of publishing and book trade of the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus Raisa Babariko, and also representatives of the National Book Chamber, the National Center of Legal Information, the National Center of Intellectual Property, the National Institute of Education, the Republican unitary enterprise "Belpochta" and "Belsoyuzpechat", the Belarusian Republican Union of Consumer Societies "Belkoopsoyz", all national libraries, library of universities, colleges and schools, heads and specialists of regional, district and municipal public libraries, and also managers and professionals from publishing houses and book-selling organizations.
During the meeting there were discussed conditions and prospects of development of reading and publishing, guidelines of collaboration between publishing houses and libraries in providing access to electronic editions, problems of improving the legal framework and regulatory system in creation and use of electronic editions, etc.
The ceremony of awarding of public libraries and the Minsk regional executive committee for their active work with the socially important literature in 2011.
