The National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the 6th Forum of Belarusian Librarians "Humanitarian and Educational Activities of Libraries in the Context of Human Values and Belarusian Statehood" on May 27.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Library Association and the National Library of Belarus.
The forum participants received greetings from Mr Anatol Markevich, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Raman Matulski, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Mr Mikhail Afanasiev, President of the Russian Library Association, Ms Oksana Bruy, President of the Ukrainian Library Association at the opening ceremony.
Heads and specialists of libraries of various systems and departments of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of scientific and educational institutions, executive authorities, public associations and organizations attend the event.
At the plenary session, the participants discussed the implementation of public policy in the field of library business, scientific and methodical provision of libraries, development of higher library and information education in the context of modern challenges, etc.
As part of the event, a report-and-election conference of the Belarusian Library Association was held, at which a new composition of the governing and working bodies of the professional public association was elected. Mr Uladzimir Kulazhenka, Director of the Fundamental Library of the Belarusian State University, became the new chairperson of the Belarusian Library Association Council.
A pleasant moment of the event was the awarding of honourary certificates to our colleagues for their great personal contribution to the formation and development of the Belarusian Library Association. The applause was for Ms Natalja Biarozkina, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, Ms Liudmila Kirukhina, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Biblijatechny Sviet", Mr Uladzimir Lazarau, Leading Bibliographer of the Scientific Library of the Belarusian National Technical University, Ms Lidzija Makaranka, Executive Secretary of the magazine "Biblijateka Prapanujie", Mr Uladzimir Saroka, honourary Chairperson of the Belarusian Library Association, Ms Raisa Sukharukava, Director of the National Science and Technology Library.

The participants of the forum received a musical gift from the honoured collective of the Republic of Belarus, musical chapel "SONORUS" of the Minsk region.
On 28 May, the forum will continue to work in the form of sessions and workshops.
