The Director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, made a presentation and donated the facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the Royal Library of Belgium (Albertina), on December 5.


Mr. Motulsky shared with the audience the story of the international publishing project, implemented by the National Library of Belarus and the Bank BelVEB (2013–2017). The original facsimile includes digital copies of the books printed by the known humanist, Francysk Skaryna, in Prague and Vilna. In the year marking the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing, the multivolume publication acquaints the world’s community with a valuable stratum of the Belarusian history, representing Belarus as a country with a versatile and distinctive culture.

The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Kingdom of Belgium, Alexander Mikhnevich, the First Secretary of the Embassy, Kirill Grushevsky, the Director General of the Royal Library of Belgium,Sarah Lammens,and also staff of the Library, scholars, writers and publishers of the two countries.

The meeting ended with an sightseeing around the Royal Library of Belgium.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
