On 11 July, the library hosted the seminar “Book heritage of Belarus in the context of the global media-information field”.
The event was provided by the National Library of Belarus and the Republican Institute of Higher School.
The seminar was attended by employees of the Book science department of the National Library, participants of the II International Summer School of Belarusian Studies, and students of the philological faculty of the Belarusian State University. Students of the International Summer School of Belarusian Studies from different countries discuss the linguistic, historical and cultural heritage of Belarus during various communicative events.
Specialists of the Book science department presented their reports: the Chief Bibliographer Tatiana Kornilova (“The Belarusian printed Cyrillic book in the collections of the National Library of Belarus”) and the Leading Bibliographer Lyudmila Silnova (“The first private libraries of scientists-Slavists in the collections of the National Library of Belarus”). The Head of Section Galina Kireeva was a moderator of the seminar.
During the meeting the National Library of Belarus was represented as a center of the safekeeping of book heritage in modern information and communication environment.
The guests made a tour of the library during which they were told about the history and resources of the institution and its capabilities as an information and cultural center. At the Book Museum the participants got acquainted with the book monuments from the collections of manuscripts, incunabula and rare editions, as well as the features of the Belarusian book in the context of the world book culture.
