On May 19th, the National Library will host the presentation of the hand-written Gospel of Mark with etchings and the opening of the exhibition of engravings by artist Apollinaria Mishina (St.-Petersburg).


The calligraphic book Ot Marka Svjatoe Blagovestvovanie (The Holy Gospel of Mark) includes parallel texts in the Church Slavonic and the Russian languages written by hand in a special font and illustrations performed in an rare complex technique of color etching. The cycle of illustrations includes 155 calligraphic sheets and 104 illuminated miniatures.

Apollinaria Mishina’s unique project is a synthesis of traditional and modern arts. “As an artist-calligraphist, I wished to find an accurate and authentic “sound” in the reflection of the evangelical text”, – the master sais.

Her work has been highly appreciated by the Russian Orthodox Church.

The art project is reprinted by the publishing house Vita Nova (St.-Petersburg). One of its first presentations will take place in Minsk.

The expositions of unique hand-made books are part of the long-standing project ART-BOOK arranged by the graphic gallery Knizhny salon.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
