Presentation of a series of books “Poets of the planet” will take place on October 11 in the Library. Masterpieces of the world poetry now are available in Belarusian!


The publisher Dmitri Kolas along with a group of Belarusian literary translators created a poetic series of books “Poets of the planet”.

Eight books have already been published. Works of the most famous poetess of Ancient Greece Sappho, the unrivalled poet of Persian, author of quatrains Omar Khayyám, the bright representative of Italian Enlightenment Petrarch, the king of French poetry Ronsard, the master of sonnets Shakespeare, the great German poet Goethe, the founder of a new poetry Rilke, and the Chilean poetess, the Nobel prize laureate Gabriela Mistral are among them.

The world lyric of different epochs is presented in the best translations of professionals of several generations. Publishing of poetic masterpieces of Baudelaire, Hölderlin, Apollinaire, Edgar Allan Poe, Jan Kochanowski, Keats, Katri Vala is planned. 75 books are awaited.

All editions are of a convenient pocket format and have an original decoration, worked out by Martin Rusetski. Books of a poetic series are targeted at a wide audience, including teachers and pupils, professors and students.

The presentation begins at 16.00 in the gallery “Labyrinth” (3rd floor).

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
