On October 21, 2015, the III International Congress “The Library as a Cultural Phenomenon” opened at the National Library of Belarus.
Director of the National Library of Belarus Raman Matulski opened the Congress. Attendees of the Congress were welcomed by Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Barys Sviatloǔ, Vice Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Natallia Kučynskaja, Director of the National Centre of Legal Information of Belarus Jaǔhen Kavalenka, and Bishop of Barysaǔ and Mar’ina Horka Venijamin.
Within the framework of the event, winners of the I Republican competition “The Library as a Center of Spiritual and Moral Education” (established by the Belarusian Exarchate) received awards.
This year’s plenary session topics were: historical evolution of public libraries, public policy and government programs the sphere of librarianship, libraries for support and development of reading, ways of development of modern libraries.
At the showroom opened within the bounds of the Congress, attendees can familiarize themselves with technical and technological novelties, information products and services, and purchase new editions and souvenirs.
Section meetings, seminars and round tables have started after the Congress’ plenary session. Some of them will continue tomorrow.
The first day of the event ended with an excursion to the National Library of Belarus.
