On September 2–3, the Library takes part in the celebration of the Day of Belarusian Writing. It’s not the first time when Polotsk takes up the torch of the annual national holiday, but 2017 is not an exception!


This year is marked by the 500th anniversary of Belarusian and East Slavic book printing – an event associated with the activities of the famous Polotsk citizen Francysk Skaryna. Therefore, we are going to honor the outstanding first printer in his historic homeland.

Presentation and a solemn donation to the Polotsk Central City Library n.a. F. Skaryna of the facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna. A unique multi-volume book was published thanks to the international scientific and publishing project implemented by the National Library of Belarus and the BelVEB Bank during five years (2013–2017).

Presentation of the album Асветнік з Полацка. Ушанаванне Францыска Скарыны and the illustrated popular scientific publication Вільня часоў Францыска Скарыны.

Along with traditional books, we present a virtual resource "The Book of Belarus in XIV–XVIII", which allows to have an online access to copies of the full texts of the most valuable old printed publications stored in the National Library of Belarus.

Guests of the festive event will be able to visit the thematic exhibition "Keeping the National Book Heritage", which will present the newest publications dedicated to the first printer, the facsimile The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna and other facsimile reproduced by the National Library monuments of Belarusian writing.

Another exhibition – "Five Centuries of Belarusian Book Printing" – is illustrative. The exposition, located on bilateral banners, will visually present the samples of the Belarusian press, most typical of a certain century, and monuments to the figures of Belarusian culture.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
