The Republican seminar "Copyright under modern conditions: practice and regulation” was held on October 20 at the National Library of Belarus.
The seminar organizers: the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Council of Libraries of Belarus for Information Interaction, the National Library of Belarus, the National Center of Intellectual Property, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations.
Representatives of the foregoing organizations and institutions, representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Belarus, republican, university and regional libraries and copyright specialists took part in the seminar.
At the seminar the representatives of the foregoing organizations delivered their reports:
- Tlevlessova Saule, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva;
- Fichor Mikhal, Chairman of the Central and Eastern European Copyright Alliance (СЕЕСА);
- Voronetskaya Oksana, the National Library of Belarus;
- Bichurin Aleksey, the National Center of Intellectual Property;
- Banionite Emilia, the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations, (EBLIDA);
- Rybokur Ingrid, the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRO).
During the seminar, in which participated leading national and foreign experts, the pressing questions of practical realization and copyright protection in the Republic of Belarus were considered: use of products in the sphere of culture, telecasting and broadcasting, library activity and other socially significant areas with the use of modern communication technologies; applied aspects of realization of restrictions and exceptions of copyrights in view of the best world experience, tendencies in development of national legal regulation and law enforcement practice. A particular attention was paid to development of mechanisms of collective copyright management, executors and other owners of copyrights and allied rights in Belarus.
