On 14–15 June, the National Library of Belarus hosted the 20th Scientific Conference "Saint-Petersburg and Belarusian Culture", dedicated to the memory of Skalaban and the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Belarus.


Conference was organized by the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) and the St. Petersburg Association in Belarus. The conference brought together scholars, educators, managers and staff of libraries, scientific and educational institutions from Russia, Belarus, Poland and Japan. CEO of the National Library of Russia Anton Likhomanov welcomed all participants of the conference with his speech.

The reports of experts addressed the issues of diplomatic relations and cultural cooperation between Belarus and Russia at the present stage, the history of the integration processes in the Russian-Belarusian diplomatic relations, the fate of prominent figures in Belarusian culture (such as Yanka Kupala and Jan Barszczewski) in St. Petersburg, as well as participation of the representatives of other nations and states in the cultural life of Belarus. A number of documents were devoted to the fate of both Belarusian cultural and book heritage in foreign countries. The speakers studied facts and considered events in the history of intercultural and interfaith cooperation in Belarus.

At the conference Deputy Director for Research and Publishing Activities of the National Library of Belarus Alexandr Susha presented a report on the prospects of the Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the facsimile publication of book monuments.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
