The annual regional meeting of representatives of libraries of the CIS countries (CIS Caucus), which is traditionally held on the eve of the opening of the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) took place on August 24, 2019 in the city of Athens, the Hellenic Republic.
Participants were personally greeted by IFLA President Gloria Perez-Salmeron and IFLA Secretary General Gerald Leitner.
The meeting was moderated by Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, Mikhail Afanasyev, Director of the State Historic Public Library of Russia, President of the Russian Library Association, Vadim Duda, Director General of the Russian State Library and Vice President of the Russian Library Association, Ospanova Bakytzhamal, Director National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ismailova Adiba Imash, Deputy Director of the National libraries of Azerbaijan.
It was particularly noted the importance of cooperation among the libraries of the Commonwealth and the need to implement joint long-term projects in relevant areas of activity.
Elena Zhabko, Director of Information Resources of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library, reported about the joint projects of the national libraries of the CIS countries on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. Ludmila Zaitseva, Deputy Director of the Department of State and Priority Projects, Head of the Department of Consolidated Planning and Reporting of the Russian State Library, Chairman of the Section for Library Management and Marketing of the Russian Library Association, spoke about the Russian experience and the new stage of the IFLA “Library World Map” project.
Gorokhova Svetlana, Director for International and Educational Activities of M.I. Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature, member of the Russian Library Association board, presented the international projects of the Library of Foreign Literature. DenisKotov, Chairman of the Committee for the Support and Development of Book Distribution of the Russian Book Union summed up the results of the St. Petersburg Cultural Forum 2019.
In total more than 100 delegates from the CIS countries took part in CIS Caucus.
