On August 16 – 18, Kiev hosted the VII International Book Fair-Exhibition timed to the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

L.G. Kiryukhina, deputy director of the National Library of Belarus for research and publishing activity, participated in the event. Within the framework of the fair-exhibition the National Library of Belarus has presented 134 best books published in Belarus to V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. It was the third book delivery ceremony held as part of the project “Belarus Today”.

L.G. Kiryukhina and the board of V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine have held a meeting during which they have discussed a wide range of questions concerning the launch of joint research work. The parties have agreed to carry on the project on the Khreptovichs’ digital library development and the interchange of digital copies of documents on Ukrainian and Belarusian studies.

According to the agreement that was reached at Kiev Book Fair the Ukrainian colleagues will digitize rare editions by F. Skoryna available in their library stocks and will pass the electronic copies to the National Library of Belarus. Furthermore, the first issue of the Ukrainian magazine “Bibliotechnij visnik” (“The Library Bulletin”) for 2012 will be wholly devoted to the National Library of Belarus as a sign of a fruitful and long-term cooperation. That will certainly be a good example of joint publishing activity.

At the end of Kiev Book Fair V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine has presented 135 books published in Ukraine to the National Library of Belarus.
