On December 28, 2023, the National Library of Belarus hosted the grand opening of the book and illustrative exhibition "Pages of History: to the 105th anniversary of the creation of the BSSR", dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the formation of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic.

On January 1, 1919, the BSSR was proclaimed – the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic. The date coinciding with the New Year was the first in a new era of Belarusian statehood, a new era of Belarusian history. The bright event of the country was marked by the book and illustrative exhibition "Pages of History: to the 105th anniversary of the creation of the BSSR".

The exhibition presents materials telling about the process of formation and development of the Belarusian statehood, the main economic, social, cultural and historical processes. Of particular interest are materials about achievements in various spheres of life, about prominent state and cultural figures of the BSSR.

The exposition is complemented by festive posters for the anniversaries of the BSSR, made by the best Belarusian poster artists - members of the Union of Artists of Belarus. The posters are united by a solemn mood filled with pride for the country, images of successful cultural and industrial activities of the union, confidence in its future achievements and prosperity. Dedicated to the 50th, 60th and 70th anniversary of the BSSR, posters abound with Belarusian national symbols: cornflowers, wheat, Belarusian ornament, traditional costume, elements of production, large-scale construction, coat of arms, colours of the flag of the BSSR, etc. Among the authors are V. Zhuk, R. Malinovsky, I. Kreidik, V. Sytchenko, V. Krukovsky, I. Radunsky, L. Zamakh, G. Isypov, etc.

The art exhibition demonstrates the skills of the academic school of Belarusian poster graphics, life-affirming Soviet realism. Sincere confident faces, working hands, principled characters of the heroes of the plots impress with their energy and faith.

The colour of the era is carried by posters of Soviet authors dedicated to socially significant topics and events of the USSR era: space exploration, scientific and technical revolution, ecology, education interpreted by such authors as V. Filimonov, L. Zamakh, N. Gurlo, V. Soloviev, etc.

The event was attended by Vadzim Hihin, Director General of the National Library of Belarus; Sergey Klishevich, Member of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Education, Culture and Science; Pavel Trubchik, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; Elena Stukanova, Deputy Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus,.

The exhibition will be open until January 30, 2024.
