From October 27th, 2009, to November 9th, 2009, in Belarusian literaturereading room (room 205) is open a book exhibition “The thoughts and the words” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Maxim Luzhanin (1909–2001).


Maxim Luzhanin (Alexander Karataj) is the Belarus writer, scenario writer, translator, honored art worker of Belarus (1969), and winner of Y. Kolas Literary Prize (1965).

The writer’s creative heritage is rich and various. Verses and stories, articles and translations – this is an incomplete list of literary works by Maxim Luzhanin. Belarusian literary critic V. Gnilomiodov, characterizing the writer’s creativity, said: “The workshop of a word, the smithy of a word – one can tell it about his creative laboratory”.

The exhibition consists of four sections. The section “The language of the heart” displays works by Maxim Luzhanin: the first edition of the author’s poetry published in 1928, collected poetry and poems published between 1930 and 1932, book of poetry written during the World War II (published in 1945), books of the post-war poetry (1950 and 1952) etc.

The following two sections reveal the writer’s activities as a translator, a scenario writer, editor and compiler.

The last section of the exhibition is dedicated to the author’s life and creative work.

The exhibition displays about 90 publications.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
