From 19th February to 11th March, a book exhibition "The consonance of colors” timed to the 75th anniversary from the birth of Iosif Skurko (1938–1989) runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (room 205).
The comprehensive exposition represents a literary portrait of the talented Belarusian poet, scenario writer and translator.
The works of Iosif Skurko are written in different genres, but most of them are lyrical. His poetry is filled with a patriotic pathos and love of his native land. It is notable for the euphony and the melodiousness. And that is why many verses of the poet are set to music by modern Belarusian composers V. Budnik, I. Luchenok, K. Tesakov, R. Butsvilovsky to become known songs – “Svyatlo tvaikh vachey”, “Batskouski parog”, “Verasy”, “Svitsyazyanka”, “Lastauka” etc.
At the exposition a central place is given to books “Batskouski parog” (“The Father’s Threshold”) (1973) and ”Vesnitsy” ("The Wicket”) (1990) which manifest the boundlessness of the poet’s talent. A particular exhibition section “The inexhaustible wealth” presents numerous publications of his works in journals and collections.
Iosif Skurko worked fruitfully in the field of translation from Polish, Russian and Ukrainian languages. He translated into Belarusian separate works of V. Bokov, B. Kezhun, A. Tvardovsky, M. Nagibeda and others. His translations are presented in the section “With a mark of lyricism”.
Encyclopedic editions and publications exhibited in the section “The master of the poetic word” acquaint with the poet’s life and creative career.
