From 20th June to 26th August, the book exhibition "The chronicle of people’s life” timed to the 85th anniversary of the National film studio Belarusfilm runs in the Visual documents reading room (room 307).

Belarusian cinematograph appeared in December, 1928, under the name of Belgoskino. Y. Tarich and V. Korsh-Sablin, the founders of Belarusian cinema, created their first movies in Leningrad as the national production basis was absent at that time.

From 1926 to 1940, new directors arrived to lay the foundation for Belarusian cinema and depict the epoch in a heroic and epic form. In 1939, the film studio moved to the capital of Belarus, and in 1946 it received the name Belarusfilm.

Belarusian national cinema reached its flourishing in the 1950s-1960s. During this period the gold collection of Belarusian cinema was created: Red leaves, The clock has stopped at midnight, The Alpine ballad, I come from the childhood etc. It was an epoch of the variety of themes, genres, style decisions, non-traditional interpretation of the classics. The television series became popular at that time. TV films such as Ruins are shooting… , Frontier, About the Red Hat, Fathers and sons got a wide audience.

Belarusian national film studio reached the peak of creativity in the 1970s. It was the epoch of V. Turov, I. Dobroliubov, V. Rybarev, L. Nechaev, M. Ptashuk, V. Rubinchik and V. Nikiforov whose names became the classics of Belarusian cinematograph. At that time the film studio released more than 100 movies a year – pictures, documentaries and animated films. In that period the screen versions of priceless masterpieces of Belarusian writers were created: I. Melezh, A. Makayonok, V. Bykov, V. Korotkevich, I. Shamyakin, A. Adamovich, I. Chigrinov. It is enough to mention the movies People on a bog, The breath of thunder-storm, The Sign of trouble, Go and see, Wild hunt of king Stach.

The exhibition presents reference editions, books and articles devoted to Belarusian cinematography and its figures. Among exhibited documents there are director’s scripts of the known movies The Lion’s tomb (director. V. Rubinchik), Our armored train (director of M. Ptashuk), The hunter’s sketches and Snowstorms, Decemder (director V. Turov) etc. The exhibition stands will acquaint visitors with festival posters of the 1980s. The exposition also includes multimedia editions which can be viewed on special equipment installed in the reading room.

More than 80 documents are on display.
