From 1 April to 30 June, a book exhibition "Sport and law" timed to the World Hockey Championship in Minsk runs in the Legal Information Reading Room (room 207b).


Now sport is a mass phenomenon, a popular show, a pledge of the nation’s prosperity. Therefore, sports activity is considered as an integral part of the policy, a strategy for development of a nation in many countries. Over the past few decades people have began to maintain a healthy lifestyle, life expectancy has increased in developed countries due to attention to sport and physical training. At the beginning of the 21st century, sport has become a very profitable business. Modern sport is developing within the bounds of triangle "state – business – sport". According to the state’s position, sport is an essential element of policy, a reliable and efficient tool of ideology.

The principal legal act that regulates the sports industry in the Republic of Belarus is the Act of 18 June, 1993, № 2445 -XII "About Physical Culture and Sport". It defines the most important matters of the organization of sports activities, outlines the state policy in the field of physical culture and sports, defines the powers of the National Olympic Committee and sports federations.

Belarusian lawmakers adopted a series of acts that define the order of providing sponsorship of sports, awards and other assignments to achieve outstanding results in sport, erecting sports facilities and complexes, etc. Currently, a project of the Sports Code of the Republic of Belarus which includes more than 150 articles has been designed. Its adoption will contribute to the systematic and coherent regulation of connections in the field of sports and physical training.

International sports relations are the subject of study in sports law and international sports law. With the development of sport attention to these legal relations, their normative regulations, subjects and development will increase.

The exposition contains about 50 documents: books, pamphlets, periodicals. The exhibition includes the following sections:

  • International sports law.
  • Sports law: concept, terms and prospects.
  • Legal regulation of individual sports.
  • Labor and civil relations in sport.
  • Legal regulation in the fight against doping in sport.
  • Crime in sport.

The materials of the exhibition are recommended to researchers, teachers, graduate students and students of law and sports schools, and also to anyone interested in sport.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
