From December 16th, 2009, to January 10th, 2010, in Belarusian literature reading room (room 205) is open a book exhibition “Remember to live” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Ivan Chigrinov (1934–1996).
Creative work of Ivan Chigrinov, the dramatist, translator, journalist, scenario writer, public figure, national writer of Belarus, winner of the State Premium of Belarus (1974) and A. Fadeev Literary Award (1979), has become a great contribution to the cultural life of Belarus. His works are well-known both in Belarus and abroad and very much appreciated by readers and literary critics. The writer dedicates his prose to the events of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and narrates sincerely about this severe and heroic epoch.
The book exhibition displays more than 160 documents in three sections.
The first section “Secrets of I. Chigrinov’s creative laboratory” includes books of short stories, novels, plays, books of articles and critical essays.
Ivan Chigrinov is also known as a scenario writer and translator. Scenarios and translations of Russian, Uzbek, Danish, Ukrainian and Armenian authors performed by Ivan Chigrinov are displayed at the exhibition. The second section of the exhibition “Chigrinov’s works in translations” displays books by the author translated into Russian, English, Bulgarian, Spanish, Moldavian, German and other languages.
The third section “Sincerity, truthfulness, humanity” represents publications of literary critics, memoirs of friends of the writer on his life, creative and public work; articles about films and plays based on Ivan Chigrinov’s scenarios. In the section is displayed as well A. Martinovich’s book "Ivan Chigrinov: an essay on life and creativity” (1999) in which the author reveals Ivan Chigrinov’s life and career.
