The exhibition "The Human Rights in the Context of Law", dedicated to the International Human Rights Day (December 10), has been opened in the legal information reading room (207b) from November 1 to December 31.

The UN General Assembly, while adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, urged all states to disseminate the knowledge about human rights by teaching and educating, respecting and implementing them.

The International Human Rights Day reminds us that human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us into one global community with the same ideals and values.

During the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN developed a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving the objectives in the field of human rights. The basis of this strategy is a set of international norms and standards that now cover every area of human activity. A wide network of human rights mechanisms was established to promote the further development of international standards and monitor their implementation, compliance and investigation of human rights violations on this strong legislative basis.

This strategy is supported by a wide range of different activities in the field of public information and technical cooperation program, which aims at providing practical assistance to states in their efforts to promote and protect human rights.

The Republic of Belarus is the author of a number of initiatives of the international importance in the field of combating human rights violations. The initiative on activation of the fight against human trafficking is of particular importance. A set of measures aimed at ensuring of the full protection of children’s rights was adopted in order to fulfill international commitments. Our country actively participates in other forms of the international cooperation in the field of human rights.

The modern world has become more interconnected and interdependent under the influence of globalization, integration and information. Under these conditions, human rights are a kind of prism, through which all countries are perceived and evaluated. Human rights become a universal criterion of political, socio-economic and spiritual development of the modern society.

The exposition includes more than 60 documents: books, pamphlets, periodicals, abstracts of theses.

The exhibition includes the following sections:

  • Human rights in the international law: state, implementation, problems.
  • The Constitution as a guarantor of the implementation of human rights in the modern world.
  • The constitutional and procedural means of protecting the rights and freedoms of a man and a citizen.
  • The state and legal mechanism for protection of civil rights and freedoms in Belarus.

The exhibition is interesting for everyone involved in the theoretical and practical problems in the field of international, constitutional, social and other rights.
