From July 6 to August 28, the thematic exhibition "Dangerous Networks: About the Problem of Computer Addiction" is held in the Periodicals Reading Room (room 106).
Modern computer technologies with their unlimited communicative, informational and entertaining opportunities, on the one hand, are a powerful means of the intellectual development of a person, on the other hand, they are means of destroying a person, replacing the world of real relationships and actions with computer models that block independence and freedom of choice, forming a dependence on the game.
The issues of computer and Internet addiction are widely covered by publications from the journals Psychology of Education, Medical Journal, Justice of Belarus, Enlightenment of the people, etc.
The most common risks of information activities can be considered content threats - threats posed by substandard and harmful materials (propagating illegal actions, violence, suicide, drugs, extremism, terrorism), and communication risks - risks arising from the interpersonal interaction of Internet users in chat rooms, social networks, forums, blogs, etc. Particularly dangerous are contacts with strangers who commit harassment, violence and blackmail (trolling, cyber mobbing, cyberbullying, grooming, involvement in “death groups”, etc.). The materials of the periodicals such as "Healthy Living", "Elementary Education", "Minsk School Today", "Health and Success" and others will tell how to recognize these threats before it's too late and how to protect yourself.
In total, the exhibition features more than 40 periodicals.
The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by library card or by the ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
