From September 12 to October 7 a book-illustrative exhibition, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of People's Artist of Belarus Arlen Kashkurevich, is held in the Art Documents reading room (306).

Arlen Kashkurevich (1929−2013) is one of the most prominent representatives of modern Belarusian art. The highest professionalism, true, brilliant talent of this book illustrator, inclined to metaphors, philosophical and religious reflection, appeal to the spiritual world of the viewer, the reflection of memorable events of the Great Patriotic War - all this forms a creative portrait of the outstanding master.

The artist worked in a various graphic techniques: linocuts, lithographs, etchings, dry point. Being a complicated, deep and thoughtful personality, A. Kashkurevich could present the world in easel, bookplates, book illustration. His creative heritage icludes large graphic series, a series of drawings that embody the eternal images of good and evil, love and female beauty, life and death. However book graphics occupies the most important place in the work of the master. There are not just illustrations of the text, artistic reproduction of the plot, and deep penetration into the essence of the literary work, disclosure of his philosophical and ethical content. The cycle of Illustration to the tragedy of the Goethe's "Faust" (1976) is very exemplary in this regard. You can see that at the exhibition.

The exposition includes over 50 documents, among which there are the book M. Hussowczyk, Y. Kupala, A. Adamovich, V. Bykov, A. Lojka, V. Korotkevitch, I. Shamyakin, A. Pushkin, H. C. Andersen and other Belarusian and foreign writers, illustrated by A. Kashkurevich and graphic works from the series "City and People", "Partisans", "Kupaliana", "Enlighteners".


The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
