The exhibition “Awake the beauty in yourself” timed to the 90th anniversary of the known Russian historian and orientailst Lyudmila Shaposhnikova runs in the circular corridor on the 3rd floor, on December 12–31.


Lyudmila Shaposhnikova (1926–2015) is an avowed philosopher, outstanding researcher of the Roerich family, writer, traveler, and public figure. Having made a great contribution to science and culture, she was marked by state awards The Order of Friendship (2006) and "For Services to the Fatherland" of IV degree (2011) for the development of museology and the preservation of cultural heritage, and also honorary degrees and diplomas.

Her main achievement was the creation of Nicholas Roerich Public Museum in Moscow. Lyudmila Shaposhnikova devoted to the museum 26 years of her life, as the permanent CEO and the first vice-president of the International Center of the Roerichs (ICR). Through her selfless 25-year activity, the center has become the world’s leading association for the preservation, study and popularization of the Roerichs’ heritage.

Lyudmila Shaposhnikova is the founder and president of the Charitable fund named after Elena Roerich, editor-in-chief of the magazine Культура и время (Culture and Time), author of 35 and more than 500 articles about the culture of India and scientific, philosophical and artistic heritage of the Roerich family. The heritage of Lyudmila Shaposhnikova has a universal importance and needs to be popularized and comprehensive studied.

The book exhibition presents more than 120 publications: the works by Shaposhnikova, Nicolas and Yuri Roerich, the letters of Elena Roerich, The Living Ethics, materials of socio-scientific conferences held in the ICR, the letters of Florensky, publications of the United Scientific Centre of Cosmic Thinking Problems, colorful albums with pictures of Nicolas Roerich and contemporary Russian artists, magazines Culture and Time, collected articles.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
