From Зrd August to 1st September, the book exhibition “And songs shall come through the time” devoted to the 75th anniversary of Belarusian composer Igor Luchenok runs in the Music and audio materials reading room (room 305).


Composer Igor Luchenok, the People’s Artist of Belarus and the USSR, honored artist of Belarus and Poland, laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus, the All-Union Lenin Komsomol Prize, the State Prize of Belarus, the International Trade Union Prize, is well-known in different countries of the world. He has added a glorious page to the history of song culture of the 20th century creating colorful and interesting works which reflect the spirit of the age and the impetuous life of contemporaries. Igor Luchenok has discovered new facets of this genre of musical art contributing to the treasury of Belarusian national music culture. His works are performed by Belarusian and Russian variety artists, both in the composer’s motherland Belarus and far abroad.

Igor Luchenok works in various musical genres: vocal and symphonic, chamber and instrumental, chamber and vocal. Most part of the composer’s works is lyrical and romantic songs, and his music is remarkable for tunefulness and national color.

Igor Luchenok’s creativity covers most different themes among which the theme of war is particularly significant. The exposition includes the composer’s well-known works such as Memory of the Heart, May Waltz, Khatyn, A Letter from 1945, Kurgan Slavi etc, and the vocal-symphonic poem We Don’t Need War which rises questions of social and moral responsibility for the fate of the world and glorifies the beauty of the Earth and human life.

Also the exhibition presents lyrical-patriotic works: songs Cranes Flying to Polesie, My Native Land, The Heritage. The song cycle Our Fathers’ Land based on the lyrics of Belarusian poets V. Dunin-Martsynkevich, M. Tank and N. Gilevich is devoted to the theme of the Motherland. His lyrical songs – Alesia, Veranika, Remember Everything, You’re My Enchanted etc are also vey popular.

Collected songs, instrumental compositions Humoresque, Byarozka, Belarusian Images, a poem-legend Guslar, and also audio records of the composer’s works performed by ensembles Pesnyary and Syabry are on display.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
