Other news

The exhibition of illustrations for the works of Sergei Mikhalkov "The most important giant" is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the writer's birth and organized jointly with the Russian Cultural Foundation and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Belarus.

The contribution of the writer, poet, playwright, storyteller, publicist, screenwriter, public figure Sergei Mikhalkov (1913-2009) to the culture and education of the younger generations is enormous. His poems, fables, fairy tales, plays, poems made up the golden fund of children's literature, characters and plots became favorites for many generations of children.

The exhibition "The most important giant" presents some of the best illustrations for the works of Sergei Mikhalkov. The exhibition features the works by such famous Soviet artists as Sergei Alimov, Eric Bulatov, Mikhail Skobelev, Viktor Chizhikov, Fedor Lemkul, Juvenal Korovin, etc. The creations of the classics of book illustration are filled with humour and wisdom. Light, touching, stylish, they perfectly complement the plots of the hero of the day's works. The world of children and adults is shown sincerely, with kind irony, attention to detail. The characters teach the audience-readers responsiveness, responsibility, talk about friendship, laugh kindly at stubborn people, remind them of willpower and the importance of different professions.

The visitors have a wonderful opportunity to meet uncle Stepa in various interpretations familiar from childhood by Konstantin Rotov, Mikhail Skobelev, Vladimir Galdyaev, German Mazurin and Juvenali Korovin. Three piglets appear in one exhibition in the vision of Eric Bulatov, Oleg Vasiliev, Evgeny Rachev, Boris Trzhemetsky, Maria Rudachenko and Viktor Chizhikov. My favourite story is "What do you have?" it can be seen performed by the most famous illustrators Mikhail Skobelev, German Mazurin, "The Feast of Disobedience" – through the prism of the imagination of Herman Ogorodnikov, Viktor Chizhikov, and fables – interpreted by Evgeny Monin, Mikhail Saltykov, etc.

"Foma" by Sergei Alimov, "My Streets" by Svetlana Korotkova, "Idler-traffic Light" by Mikhail Fedorov, "Sweet Tooth" by Olga Ionaitis, "Walk" by Aminadav Kanevsky, "Anna-Vanna Brigadier" by Nadezhda Boguslavskaya – thanks to more than 30 authors, masters of illustrating of children's books, the visitors of the exhibition can look through pages of their favourite books.

The lines that have come to life in artistic images are eloquent, simple and easy to perceive, relevant today as well as when they were created. Sergey Mikhalkov's children's works and illustrations for them are a bottomless storehouse of knowledge, a space of a child's soul, honesty and beauty, a collection of principles, rules and qualities that are so important for young readers to learn on the way to adulthood.
