On February 11th, the art exhibition timed to the 85th anniversary of Heorhiy Paplaǔski opened in the National Library.


Heorhiy Paplaǔski started his way to the art fifty years ago. For this time, he has created a large number of remarkable works: the artist works in easel and book graphics, painting and watercolor. His works adorn museums and private collections in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the USA, India and other countries. In recent decades, the artist has repeatedly exhibited his paintings; however, the graphic art still remains the core of his work.

Heorhiy Paplaǔski is a virtuoso of linocuts, lithography, drawing and watercolor, which allow him to create various, but always aesthetically significant works of art on a variety of topics.

The particular and very large page of Heorhiy Paplaǔski’s creation is book graphics. Throughout his life he has brought a passion for the art of book illustration; he was lucky to work with very interesting literary material: the master illustrated Belarusian classics – the books by Janka Kupala and Jakub Kolas, Vasil Bykaǔ, Alies Adamovič, Ivan Mielež; Belarusian fairytales and legends, textbooks, and also the outstanding world literature – William Shakespeare, Friedrich Schiller, Francesco Petrarca, Jack London, Rabindindranat Tagor, Longfellow etc.

Heorhiy Paplaǔski donated a lot of his works to the National Library of Belarus. The offered exhibition is devoted to the anniversary of the great Belarusian artist. The exposition includes illustrations to the books by J. Kupala, J. Kolas, V. Bykaǔ.

Also, 8 works by Natallia Paplaǔskaja of the series Braslaǔščyna and illustrations to the novel by I. Mielež People of the Marsh are on display.

The exhibition is located in the gallery “Atrium” (3rd floor) and will run till 9 March.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

Dreams about Belarus at the National Library

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
