The photo exhibition #weareamongyou (#мысредивас), timed to the World AIDS Day, opened on November 14 in the library.

The organizers are the National Library of Belarus and the Belarusian Public Association “Positive Movement”.

The works of photographer Julia Shablovskaya are on display at the mobile gallery. These are portraits of the most vulnerable to HIV infection groups of the population, as well as doctors, social workers, officials, journalists, and just caring people who support the philosophy of scientifically based programs for the prevention of HIV infection. The project promotes the idea of a diverse society, united in face of HIV/AIDS, and that is why the photos at the exhibition are mixed together and do not indicate that a person belongs to a particular group.

The stands with infographics illustrate infection rates in Belarus, statistics of HIV transmission routes in 2005–2016, as well as the types of discrimination of minors with immunodeficiency, methods to combat the growing epidemic and much more.

Elena Dolgopolova, first deputy director of the National Library of Belarus, spoke about the contribution of the “Diamond” to the dissemination of knowledge on the topic of combating HIV infection and popularizing tolerant attitudes towards people with immunodeficiency.

The curator of the exhibition #мысредивас, Ekaterina Parfenyuk, and the author of the pictures, Yulia Shablovskaya, thanked the project partners, as well as the participants of the photo shoot for their active work and awareness in HIV prevention.

The event was attended by Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarvar, the representative of the UNICEF Children's Fund in Belarus; Goodwill Ambassador Svetlana Borovskaya; Alexey Chistodarsky, the UNDP analyst on communication and promotion; Anna Vasilenko, an assistant professor at the Infectious Diseases Department, Belarusian State Medical University; Inna Karaban, the deputy head of the Hygiene, Epidemiology and Prevention Department, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, and Ekaterina Shelegova, the deputy head of the Main Department for Drug Control and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

At the end of the event, the guests were asked to fill in questionnaires that would help them understand what each of them could do to overcome the growing epidemic of HIV.
