The exhibition project “History in time” of the gymnasium-college n.a. I.O. Ahremchik opened in the National Library of Belarus on June 21.

The gymnasium-college has educated musicians and artists for more than half a century. In 2017 it turns 55.

The gymnasium graduates have prepared a series of events “Parnate. Makaenka str, 14” dedicated to the jubilee. The informal term parnate is a slang word to name the gymnasium-college in the Belarusian professional cultural community. Since 1968, the gymnasium has turned out 40 graduating classes in fine arts. This is more than one generation of professional and well-known artists, designers and graphic artists. Many of them are gone, but left behind the masterpieces of painting which do not cease to enchant.

The project “History in time” presents works of the Belarusian artists-graduates of the gymnasium-college Konstantin Sharangovich (1956–2014), Alexander Ldokov (1958–1989), Valery Dashkevich (1970–2015), Dmitry Khmyznikov (1970–1995), Alexander Timoschenko (1971–2003).

The solemn opening was attended by the First Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus Elena Dolgopolova. The art historian and critic, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, the Belarusian Union of Designers, the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Tatiana Bembel thanked the graduates-initiators of the project for the next exhibition, which will be part of the history of the gymnasium-college, and shared some memories of her life. "Parnate" is a school of paradox where in a highly unusual boarding system artists are born, those with a powerful inner strength and a huge spiritual world. They used to look for inspiration and creative ideas outside of school, and then at night create works that reflected the world outside the college walls.

The sculptor and Chair of the section “Sculpture” of the Belarusian Union of Artists Alexander Shappo expressed respect and gratitude towards the graduates and artists who were his acquaintances. “These people are part of my youth and the image of the world”, he said. Alexander Shappo also noted that the creative life was transient, but the works of outstanding persons continued to live and arouse interest.

The artist, photographer, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists and the association “Fotoiskusstvo” Denis Romaniuk told how the exhibition was created. As it turned out, all the works are from private collections of the artists’ families and friends, and possibly, this is the only opportunity to see these paintings in public.

The wife of the artist Alexander Ldokov – the senior teacher of the chair of the piano of the Belarusian Academy of Music Violetta Ldokova shared her memoirs to the audience.

At the exhibition the audience paid a particular attention to the work of Vladimir Yurchenko − a triptych "Track." Three canvases and three tracks are a symbolic reminder that everyone in this world has something to leave behind.

The exhibition runs till 22 July, 2016.
