The thematic exhibition “Cymbals are ringing”, dedicated to the history and development of the Belarusian cymbal art, takes place from January 18 to February 18 in the musical and audiovisual documents reading room (room 305).
Cymbals are a musical symbol of Belarus and occupy an important place in the orchestra of folk instruments. Once they belonged only to folk music, now they are an organic component of the highly developed Belarusian professional culture.
An invaluable role in the development of the cymbal art of Belarus belongs to the People's Artist of the USSR Joseph Zhinovich. It was he who first used cymbals as a solo instrument on the concert stage. He became the first Belarusian professional cymbalist and is generally considered to be the founder of the Belarusian school of cymbalists. Therefore, the exhibition focuses on his life and work and, of course, the activities of the I. Zhinovich State Academic Folk Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.
The exhibition presents musical editions: a collection of pieces for cymbals and piano "April mood" by A. Klevantsa, a collection of pieces for cymbals "Melody" by S. Gerashchenko, "White birches of Belarus" by G. Ermachenkov, a collection of concert works for the ensemble of cymbalists "Return to heritage", "The Cymbals Playing School" by I. I. Zhinovich and many others.
Audio documents such as "Music for cymbals", "Belarusian cymbalists ensemble “Milavitsa” ", "Fantasy on two Belarusian folk themes", folk dance "Lyavonikha", concert piece for cymbals and folk orchestra "Fair entertainment", etc., provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the melody of the instrument, as well as expand musical horizons with the help of the library's funds.
The exposition is complemented by books and articles from magazines on the subject of the exhibition.
