The thematic exhibition "Safe, regulated and legal migration in the XXI century", dedicated to the International Migrant Day, is open from December 15 to January 16 in the Official Documents Service department (room 207).
Taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world, on December 4, 2000, the General Assembly, at its 55th session, proclaimed December 18 as International Migrant Day (resolution 55/93). On this day in 1990, the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (resolution 45/158) was adopted. This convention is a comprehensive program for the protection of migrants' rights – as of October 1, 2021, 56 States have ratified it.
The proposed exhibition includes about 100 documents in Russian, English, and German. These are books, brochures, mimeographed UN materials, periodicals, booklets.
These documents will introduce the reader to the collective efforts of States and international organizations aimed at ensuring the protection of migrants' rights, their adaptation and integration in host countries, and improving migration management.
The materials presented at the exhibition introduce the situation of migrants in the world, the activities of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Global Commission on International Migration, as well as the state policy of the Republic of Belarus aimed at regulating migration processes and assisting migrants in their search for a safe life, peace and stability.
Among the exhibits presented at the exhibition are collections of international legal documents and national legislative acts on migration, monographs, research materials on labor migration, practical and educational manuals, materials of scientific and practical conferences.
The exposition includes the following thematic sections:
- International migration and migration law
- The volume and dynamics of international migration
- Migration policy and cooperation in the field of migration
- International labor migration
- Migration processes in the Republic of Belarus
The exhibition will be useful for specialists in the field of international relations, lawyers, political scientists, researchers, teachers, students of higher educational institutions, as well as anyone interested in modern theories and problems of migration.
International migration is one of the main distinguishing features of our rapidly changing world. In recent years, insecurity, the effects of climate change, wars and conflicts have greatly contributed to forced displacement both within countries and across borders. In 2020, more than 281 million people were international migrants, and by the end of 2021, more than 59 million people were internally displaced.
