From December 7 to January 10, a thematic exhibition "Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All" dedicated to Human Rights Day and the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was opened in the documents of international organizations (room 207).
Human Rights Day was named by the first President of the UN General Assembly (resolution 217 (III)) in 1950 and is celebrated annually on December 10. It was on this day that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in Paris in 1948.
The Declaration is a document of exceptional historical significance. Its text is the result of close cooperation between legal experts representing all regions of the planet. This landmark document proclaims the inalienable rights inherent in every person, regardless of their race, skin color, gender, language, religion, political or other beliefs, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. The Declaration is translated more often than any other document in the world: its text exists in more than 500 languages.
The exhibition, prepared for this date, presents about 100 documents in Russian, English, and Belarusian languages – books, brochures, mimeographed UN materials, periodicals, booklets.
The exposition will acquaint readers and users of the library with the multifaceted activities of the United Nations and other international organizations in the field of promoting and protecting human rights and freedoms, eliminating the causes of violations of these rights, developing international agreements and other international legal documents.
Among the documents presented at the exhibition are monographs, materials of scientific and practical conferences, round tables, seminars, scientific reports, textbooks, international legal documents.
