An information and documentary exhibition "Death Camp Trostenets. History and memory" was open on June 7 in the Library.

In the history of different peoples of different countries of the world there is a memory with a taste of grief and pain: there are terrible events that do not fit into the head of a reasonable person, homo sapiens, who has a heart, soul and feelings. The events that have caused the killing of millions of innocent people according to the someone’s decision.

Sometimes they want to forget and do not remember it... But it is impossible, because the soul hurts for the Belarusian people, which has passed unprecedented trials, because this can happen again if we lose the memory and awareness of this terrible tragedy.

The Trostenets death camp brings a lot of pain in memory of the Belarusian, and not only the Belarusian people. Earlier, before the spring of 1942, there were the Trostenets village, a difficult military life and daily struggle for survival and freedom. But few people will remember about this: today Trostenets is mentioned as the largest on the territory of Belarus the place of mass destruction of people in the years of the German-fascist occupation.

According to the assessment made by the Extraordinary State Commission in August 1944, the number of victims of the death camp was about 206,500 people: Soviet prisoners of war, Jews of Belarus and Western European states, undergrounders and partisans, residents of Minsk were captured.

The exhibition project "Death Camp Maly Trostenets. History and memory" tells about places of mass destruction and calls to pay tribute to their victims. Much attention is paid to the biographical portrait of the Trostenets’ victims: Red Army soldier Fyodor Shuvaev, Jews Hanus Munz, Zyra Goldina, Lili Grun, Erich Klibansky, Minsk resident Yevgeny Klumov, member of the Resistance movement from Minsk Nikolay Valakhanovich. Some sections are devoted to the executions in Blagovshchina land, "Special Action 1005", the murder in Shashkovka.

The exhibition opening was attended by Elena Dolgopolova, First Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus; Peter Dettmar, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Belarus; Vitalina Rudikova, Head of the Culture Department of Minsk Executive Committee; Lyudmila Radkovskaya, Deputy Head of the People's Union Germany for the care of military graves in the Republic of Belarus, Viktor Balakirev, Director of the Minsk International Educational Center named after Johannes Rau; Jacob Racheck, Director of the Goethe Institute in Minsk; Anna Galinskaya, Deputy Director of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

You can visit the information and documentary exhibition "Death Camp Trostenets. History and memory" and pay tribute to the memory of innocent victims till January 31, 2019.

In the 1950s of the last century, the State Library named after V.I. Lenin was tasked with organizing activities as a centre for interlibrary subscription, scientific, methodological and bibliographic work and the main base of library and bibliographic services for research work in the republic, as well as the central state book depository of the BSSR. Thus, the role of the library in ensuring the social and cultural development of the state and society was emphasized.
