On December 10, 2008, in National Library of Belarus took place a ceremony of rewarding of winners of the contest of students’ essays “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in My Life”, as well as the opening of an exhibition of literature on human rights.




The contest was organized by the UN Office in Belarus and the Republican non-governmental organization for human rights protection. The event was aimed at improving Belarusian students’ knowledge and comprehension of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, its values and fundamentals of respect and protection of human rights.

Winners of the contest from 15 specialized secondary schools and universities of Belarus were rewarded with prizes and diplomas of the UN Office in Belarus. The best works will be published in “The UN Bulletin” and on the UN Office in Belarus web site. Besides that a book exhibition was open. There were displayed books and other information materials on human rights from the NLB’s collections and the latest publications by the United Nations Commissioners for Human Rights.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
